WHY CHOOSE SPRAY APPLIED FIREPROOFING & INTUMESCENT PAINTING

Spray applied fireproofing and intumescent painting are used as part of a building’s passive fire protection strategy. Spray applied fireproofing has thermal and acoustical properties and controls condensation. However, its main use is in insulating steel and metal decking from the high temperatures found during a fire. Intumescent painting is considered the lightest form of passive fire protection. It’s mainly used for steel that is exposed in the final design. When temperatures reach a certain degree, the intumescent painting reacts and expands many times its original thickness (up to 100 times), to form a stable, carbonaceous char. This char reduces the conduction of heat from the fire to the substrate, delaying the time it takes to reach structural failure allowing more time for people to exit the building.
